Prayas Theatre Company bring to life a night festival of simmering tales, live music, characters, interactive tasks and Holi activities.
Samaroh – The Great Indian Carnival is an immersive, interactive experience where the bustling streets of Mumbai are recreated in Sandringham Reserve.
In this night market, have your fortune read, eat and drink with actors, get chased by Bollywood villains, help reunite lost family members, partake in sidewalk karaoke, help solve a crime and so much more. This one night only event includes a Mela performance of traditional street folk theatre and music by the Prayas house band.
This free event takes place from 6pm – 9pm and is suitable for all ages. Please note that Sandringham Road gets very busy and finding a park is difficult, so we suggest you walk or bus to the event.
Samaroh– The Great Indian Carnival is part of the Auckland Arts Festival’s Whānui programme.
Whānui is a communal adventure: a collection of participatory arts projects in which an amazing mix of people who call Auckland home create, join in with and experience artworks in the many spaces and places that form our neighbourhoods – parks, streets, town centres, marae and places of worship.
Our Whānui projects come from creative partnerships between established artists and the creative communities of Tāmaki Makaurau.
