*****the world’s wildest, most joyous and most unrestrained music

- Telegraph, UK

In a nutshell:
A LIMITLESS ZEST FOR LIFE •
FILM DIRECTOR, PROVOCATEUR, ROCK STAR •
ANARCHIC BALKAN SOUNDS

Two-time Palme d’Or winner Emir Kusturica (When Father Was Away on Business and Underground) is one of few filmmakers to have won several awards at the Cannes, Berlin and Venice Film Festivals. But the multi-talented director is as imposing a figure on the music scene as in cinema. Since rejoining the No Smoking Orchestra as guitarist in the late 1990s, he has taken the band from cult phenomenon to international fame.

Pioneers of gypsy techno-rock, Emir Kusturica & The No Smoking Orchestra combine punk attitude with an eastern folk sound, fusing elements of Gypsy, Greek, Turkish, Latin and Slavic music. The band members are natural born nomads, at home on any stage, anywhere. From Belgium to Brazil, from Tel Aviv to Tokyo, they have always brought audiences to their feet cheering for more.

"Kusturica has created a unique self-identified musical landscape at the crossroads of Romany influences, East European heritage, electronica explorations and explosive Gypsy punk rock" Festival International de Jazz de Montreal
