In a nutshell:
THE WORLD’S GREATEST BALLERINA •
A TRIPLE BILL BY SUPERSTARS OF THE DANCE WORLD
Cassical ballerina Natalia Osipova is a star in the dance world with a ballet pedigree that includes The Bolshoi, American Ballet Theatre and The Royal Ballet. Her dancing is an exquisite force of nature, celebrated for brilliant technique, vivid characterisation and electrifying energy.
For this brand-new work, Natalia Osipova ventures into the world of contemporary dance to develop a new realm of artistic expression and has commissioned work inspired by her unique abilities from three leading choreographes.
In Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui’s Qutb, Osipova is joined on stage by contemporary dancers Jason Kittelberger and James O’Hara. In Russell Maliphant’s Silent Echo and Arthur Pita’s Run Mary Run, she performs with real life partner Sergei Polunin, who is also considered somewhat of a ballet ‘rock star’ (Take Me To Church).
Osipova is currently a Principal dancer with the UK’s Royal Ballet.
Sergei Polunin is a Ukrainian ballet dancer of Russian background who was formerly a Principal with the Royal Ballet and is currently a Principal dancer with companies in Russia. He made headlines in 2012 when, aged 22, he walked out of his Principal role during rehearsals at the Royal Ballet and never returned.
Originally from New York, Jason Kittelberger has performed with the Eastman, Cedar Lake Contemporary Ballet, Rochester Ballet, Carolina Ballet and Hubbard Street II among other roles as choreographer and director.
James O’Hara is an Australian dancer who works with dance companies world wide, including Cherkaoui’s Eastman, and has spent time in New Zealand, performing (Babel AAF 2013), as a guest tutor at NZ School of Dance in 2015 and this year with Ross McCormack.
