Whānui: EYE SPY

Forty children aged between 6-12 years from neighbourhoods all across the city, are taking part in photography workshops led by some of Auckland’s most exciting photographers: Jos Wheeler, Emily Mafile’o, Raymond Sagapolutele, and Brendan Kitto.
The photographers will share their knowledge and expertise with the young artists including how to use their very own digital cameras in many creative ways. Over the period of a week, the young artists are encouraged to explore and reveal aspects of their lives and the things that matter to them through the medium of photography.

A selection of photographs taken and curated by the young artists are exhibited during the Festival.

Eye Spy is part of the Auckland Arts Festival’s Whānui programme.

Whānui is a communal adventure: a collection of participatory arts projects in which an amazing mix of people who call Auckland home create, join in with and experience artworks in the many spaces and places that form our neighbourhoods – parks, streets, town centres, marae and places of worship.

Our Whānui projects come from creative partnerships between established artists and the creative communities of Tāmaki Makaurau.
