Peep through a keyhole into the world’s worst restaurant and open the doors to the topsy-turvy, pizza-flipped world of La Cucina dell'Arte, making its New Zealand debut at Auckland Arts Festival 2016.
Bring your appetite and prepare to be served hearty helpings of slapstick, vaudeville and traditional commedia, combined in a saucy, Fellini-esque fusion of circus and theatre that has been handed down through generations.
In La Cucina dell’arte, brothers Danny and David of Belgium’s much-loved Circus Ronaldo, are cast as chef and maitre d’ in a big top tent-turned pizzeria, where they use classic clowning tricks in the pursuit of cooking pizza for unsuspecting audience members.
Frantically setting tables, flipping pizzas and juggling plates , the pair create riotous mayhem in a dazzling display of carefully choreographed chaos. Candelabra (and the chef!) swing precipitously overhead while candles and tablecloths take on lives of their own, and spoons play a tarantella on wine bottles.
The sixth generation of the Ronaldo Circus family, Danny and David Ronaldo have charmed audiences across the globe with their mix of comedy and the romantic, whimsical circus tradition, always performed in their own intimate big top tent.
